Thomas Webb & Sons – Cock Jugs

On 10th July 1879 Thomas Webb & Sons took out a design registration for a jug in the shape of a bird.

Pattern Books

The bird is described as a “Cock” in the pattern book under the numbers 11951-2. The plumage decoration is engraved, on pattern 11951 a small cream jug variant, the engraving is filled in, presumably with gold.

Jules Barbe

The same bird shape also appeared in the book of Jules Barbe work, sadly missing. However, a facsimile of the design has surfaced and shows the jug alongside other unusual designs all enamelled by Barbe.
