Notes
Silenus was a minor woodland deity and companion of Dionysus, often depicted as the chief of the satyrs. He was the tutor and foster father of Dionysus, and remained one of his most devout followers, often depicted as perpetually drunk.
Silenus is associated with musical creativity, prophetic ecstasy, drunken joy, drunken dances and gestures, and is also related to the production of wine.
Dionysos was the name the Greeks gave the god of wine, also called Bacchus.
